Matt suffers from alopecia universalis, which caused him to lose his hair, eyebrows, and eyelashes from the young age of 6 years.

He was inspired by veteran comedians Rowan Atkinson and Stan Laurel to create his BBC Two show Pompidou in 2015.

Matt became a naturalized German citizen in November 2021. He has German ancestry through his maternal grandmother Margot Hillel, who fled Germany to escape the Nazis in 1939.
