He is an only child.
At the age of 18, Yevgeny was caught stealing 18 stealing and was suspended for two years and even served six months in prison. During his sentence, he had been working at a chemical plant in Veliky Novgorod. Afterwhich, he joined a gang in 1980, and went on a robbery spree and was once caught trying to choke a woman during a robbery. The following year, he was sentenced to twelve years in prison in a high-security penal colony for robbery, theft, fraud, and involving minors in criminal activity.
In 1990, Yevgeny was released from prison and began selling hot dogs with his mother and stepfather at the Apraksin Dvor open-air market in Leningrad.
Yevgeny was a convict in the Soviet Union.
He is at times referred to as Putin’s Chef as he is also an owns of restaurants and catering companies that provide services for the Kremlin.
Prigozhin’s father was a mining engineer who died when Yevgeny was just nine years old.
Initially, he denied any association with the Wagner Group, however, it was in September 2022, that he confirmed that he was the founder and commander of PMC Wagner. According to his statement, he had founded the group in May 2014, to support Russian proxy forces in the Donbas War against Ukraine.
In a video that went viral in 2022, it was revealed that the Wagner Group had been recuriting Russian prison inmates, with the promise of giving them freedom if they served six months with the group.
