Rachel Daly pays tribute to father with celebration after scoring first World Cup goal
The group stage of the 2023 Women’s World Cup is almost complete, with just three more quartets needing to wrap up their opening games and discover which nations make the knockouts.
On Wednesday it’s the turn of Argentina to try and force their way through to the last 16 as they face Sweden, while Italy play South Africa also needing a result to progress. Later, Brazil must overcome Jamaica to seal progression from Group F after being beaten by France – who are top and face minnows Panama.
Meanwhile, Lauren James shone again on Tuesday with two stunning goals as England put in their best performance of the Women’s World Cup so far to sweep aside China 6-1 and march into the last 16.
USA only just managed to sneak through with a draw against Portugal, leading to criticism from former stars. Follow all the latest news and match updates below:

Another half chance falls the way of Marta inside the Jamaican penalty box, but Sampson does well to make the vital block.
In the other game, it’s wave after wave of French attacks as they go in search of an immediate response. Nothing forthcoming so far, however.

Well, if the scores remain as they are then both Jamaica and Brazil would go through. Not much in the way of early chances between these two sides, with Marta’s effort saved comfortably by Spencer in the Jamaica goal.

The key game here is Jamaica’s clash with Brazil who will both see big names return to the forward line. For the Reggae Girlz, Khadja Shaw, who scored 31 goals for Manchester City last season, is back after a sending off against France.
For Brazil, Marta comes in to start for her first game of the tournament with the legendary 37-year-old making an appearance in her sixth and last World Cup.

What does each team need to qualify?
– Brazil will reach the last-16 if they beat Jamaica in Melbourne and a draw would only be enough if France lose to Panama. Brazil will top Group F if they lose and France fail to win. Brazil cannot go through with a defeat.

What does each team need to qualify?
– Jamaica will qualify from Group F as long as they avoid defeat to Brazil and a win or draw would confirm their place in the last-16. They could still go through if they lose, but they would need France to lose to Panama by a bigger margin than their defeat to Brazil.

What does each team need to qualify?
– France will reach the last-16 with a win or draw against Panama. If France win and Jamaica fail to win, they are guaranteed top spot, but if France and Jamaica both win, they will only finish first with a better goal difference (with France currently ahead on goals scored).
– France could still lose and go through, but they would need Jamaica to beat Brazil, or for Jamaica to lose heavily. A France defeat would mean Brazil and Jamaica would go through with a draw.

After that win for South Africa, a round-of-16 contest against the Netherlands awaits. It will be quite some task for the Banyana Banyana but after how they played tonight, you would be a fool to put anything past them.
