Dick Durbin studied at Assumption High School located in East St. Louis and graduated in 1962. He then got enrolled at Georgetown University, a private Jesuit research university situated in the Georgetown neighborhood of Washington, D.C., and graduated with a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree from the School of Foreign Service in 1966.

  • During his senior year in college, Dick Durbin interned in Senator Paul Douglas’s office as well as worked on Douglas’s unsuccessful 1966 reelection campaign.
  • It was after Paul Douglas mistakenly called him “Dick” that he decided to adopt the nickname.
