Arijit Singh Personal Life
Born to a Punjabi Sikh father and a Bengali Hindu mother, Arijit’s musical journey began at a very young age in his own home. His mother used to play tabla, while his maternal grandmother used to sing. So he received his first musical training only at home.
Later at the age of 3, he was trained by the Hazari brothers, who laid the foundation for his classical music training. His skills got him a scholarship from the state government for his further musical training. On his mentor’s advice, he left his hometown at the age of 18 to participate in a reality show titled Fame Gurukul.
He married his co-contestant from the show, Rooprekha Banerji, but the marriage didn’t last long. After divorcing Rooprekha, Arijit married his childhood friend, Koel Roy, in an intimate wedding on January 20, 2014. The two are still together and have two children together.
Even though he did not win the show, his singing impressed the filmmaker Snajay Leela Bhansali, renowned for movies like Padmaavat, Ram Leela, and Devdas. Bhansali wanted to feature Arijit’s song in his 2007 movie Saawariya but due to some changes in the script, his song was never released.
He once again tried his chance in reality shows via 10 Ke 10 Le Gaye Dil and won the show. He invested the prize money in his dream and built his own recording studio in Mumbai. He soon started working as a freelance music producer and eventually got the opportunity to work with Bollywood’s known names like Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, Vishal-Shekhar, and Pritam.
Arijit has always credited his musical career in Bollywood to Pritam as the composer taught him a lot and helped him create an identity in Bollywood.
