Arthur Kennedy was an American actor, stage artist, and voice actor who gained acclaim for his ability to create “an exceptional honesty and naturalness on stage”. Alongside Kirk Douglas and Marilyn Maxwell, Arthur Kennedy co-starred as Connie in the 1949 drama film noir sports film Champion. This performance got him nominated for an Academy Award for “Best Supporting Actor”.

He brought to life the character of Larry Nevins in the 1951 drama romance war film Bright Victory and this role earned him an Oscar nomination in the “Best Actor” category.

In 1955, he played Barney Castle in the drama film Trial and this won him the Golden Globe Award for “Best Supporting Actor – Motion Picture” while he was also nominated for an Academy Award for “Best Supporting Actor”.

Arthur Kennedy was cast as Lucas Cross in the drama film Peyton Place in 1957 and his co-stars for the project included Lana Turner, Hope Lange, Lee Philips, Lloyd Nolan, Diane Varsi, Russ Tamblyn, and Terry Moore. This role got him nominated for an Academy Award for “Best Supporting Actor” and a Laurel Award for “Top Male Supporting Performance”.

Along with Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Shirley MacLaine, Martha Hyer, Nancy Gates, and Leora Dana, Arthur Kennedy co-starred as Frank Hirsh in the drama film Some Came Running in 1958. For this, he got nominated for an Academy Award for “Best Supporting Actor” and a Laurel Award for “Top Male Supporting Performance”.

He suffered from thyroid cancer and eye disease during the final years of his life and spent much of his later life in Savannah, Georgia. He preferred staying out of the public eye.
