Charlie Munger is an American businessperson, investor, and philanthropist who has served as the vice chairperson of Berkshire Hathaway (the multinational conglomerate controlled by Warren Buffett). From 1984 to 2011, he was appointed as chairperson of Wesco Financial Corporation.

Charlie Munger got enrolled at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and studied Mathematics. He also became a member of the fraternity Sigma Phi Society during his time in college. However, he dropped out of college in early 1943 (a few days after his 19th birthday) in order to serve in the U.S. Army Air Corps.

Later on, he received a high score on the Army General Classification Test and was ordered to study meteorology at the California Institute of Technology (branded as Caltech or CIT) in Pasadena, California. He then took many advanced courses through several universities through the GI Bill and eventually applied to Harvard Law School (his father’s alma mater). However, he was rejected by the dean of admissions owing to the fact that Munger had not completed an undergraduate degree. Things soon changed in Munger’s favor after the dean received a call from Roscoe Pound (the former dean of Harvard Law and a Munger family friend). An excellent student, Charlie Munger graduated magna cum laude with a J.D. in 1948. During his time at Harvard, he was a member of the Harvard Legal Aid Bureau.
