Jos Buttler updates press conference on Ben Stokes fitness
England will be looking to show that their opening-day defeat against New Zealand has not affected their morale when they take on Bangladesh today in the Cricket World Cup in Dharamshala.
The defending champions were utterly humbled by the Kiwis in a nine-wicket defeat that left viewers stunned, and even more problematically, dealt a significant blow to the side’s net run rate.
The Himalayan foothills provide a stunning backdrop to the occasion, but all the pre-match discussions have centred around the nature of the pitch. Speaking to reporters on the eve of the clash, Jos Buttler described the pitch as “poor”, claiming it was different to the one used when he played at the same ground during the IPL.
The pitch was also a cause for concern when Afghanistan played against Bangladesh there, as Mujeeb Ur Rahman jarred his knee in the sandy turf diving for a ball, and head coach and former England batter Jonathan Trott said players were “unsure” over their footing.

Show latest update
England 342-3 (41) Root 81, Brook 5, Mustafizur 0-59 (9)
The 300 is up for England, Livingstone is shadow-batting as he prepares to come in next.
Root is able to manipulate the field with a clever dab down towards third man.

England 298-3 (40) Root 80, Brook 1, Shoriful 1-54 (6)
Brook is off the mark with a single, he is also an attacking player, but might be slightly more measured than his captain as he looks to make an impact at this tournament having been preferred to Jason Roy.

Wicket! Buttler out for 20! bowled Shoriful, England 296-3
Buttler goes up and over again and has another boundary, his bat and hand speed is just incredible, has to be one of the quickest in the game.
This pair are running so hard between the wickets.
But Buttler goes at one too many! Buttler expected another yorker, and it was a knuckle-ball that he just chopped on to his own stumps.
His innings comes to an end on 20 from 10.

England 290-2 (39) Root 78, Buttler 14, Mustafizur 0-54 (8)
Buttler completely miss-times the ball, it loops up but lands directly between two fielders, it was clever bowling, a good slower ball but it lands perfectly between them and the England captain has got away with one.
The England captain has gone hard at these deliveries and running quickly between the wickets, but there’s still a lot of overs to go in this innings.
Root hits another for four, and England are close to 300.

England 279-2 (38) Buttler 9, Root 73, Mahedi 1-49 (5)
And Buttler wastes no time when he comes to the crease, the second ball has flown away for six!
Just a few balls later he has another! A strong show of intent from the England captain, if aided slightly by the thinner air at the altitude of the stadium.

Wicket! Malan out for 140, bowled Mahedi, England 266-2
Malan goes for another heave and completely misses it! It brings an end to what was a stunning innings from the England opener.

England 262-1 (37) Root 69, Malan 136, Taskin 0-33 (5)
Malan has another six, a front foot pull has flown several rows deep into the crowd and been caught by a fan one-handed!
The rest of the over is comfortably knocked around for singles.

England 251-1 (36) Root 67, Malan 128, Shoriful 0-46 (5)
Root whips the ball away for four, any length ball is being punished – whether that’s seam or spin and that ball was no different.
England have their 28th four of the match.
Root has the most runs for England in ICC men’s cricket world cups, he really is the performer on the biggest stage!
Although just after that he has gone for a reverse-sweep and been struck on the back.
The next ball is hit down the ground for four however.

England 238-1 (35) Root 54, Malan 128, Taskin 0-22 (4)
Root hits one that was dropped by midwicket! The chances have been few and far between, it was a full-stretched effort but just put down.
Unfortunately, he has now followed it up with two wides.
A very long over has come to an end for Taskin, Shakib has bowled very well but the rest of Bangladesh’s attack has not quite been up to the same standard.

England 232-1 (34) Root 51, Malan 127, Miraz 0-55 (6)
England are motoring along here, the only question is how many more can they get?
