Hairy Biker’s Dave Myers funeral plans released with his last wish for guests – live

In the wake of Myers’s death, fans are recalling a moving interaction between the Hairy Bikers in a recent episode of Go West, which aired earlier this month.

After candidly sharing details of his cancer diagnosis, Myers issued some advice to his friend, whom he met in 1996: “One thing I’d say is you have to live for today – don’t live for tomorrow because you don’t know what’s around the corner. It could be a double-decker bus. Live for today and don’t worry so much.

“I’ve always been a stupid worrier. Big stuff, I’m alright, but I worry about the daft stuff. But now I’m learning, I’m like, ‘Come on Myers get it in perspective!”

Myers then added: “But cancer – there’s nothing kicks you in the teeth like that.”

In a June 2023 interview with The Times, King revealed that Myers immediately called him after learning of his cancer diagnosis.

“I was driving. I had to pull over,” he said, adding: “It’s so distressing. It’s very difficult to verbalise. There’s a sense of loss, but there’s also that sense of hope, you know, knowing my mate as I do.”

King called Myers “a scrapper” and “a fighter”, adding: “But there were certain points that I thought, ‘Where’s it going to go? What is happening to my friend?’”

King went on: “And it’s funny, you know, when you see somebody you love so much in so much distress, it’s very hard to know what to do. My character and personality is, naturally, I just want to fix it. I just want to fix it. I get very distressed when I can’t.”

Myers made his Hairy Biker debut alongside Si King onThe Hairy Bikers’ Cookbook in 2004, and have presented numerous shows together over the years.

These include The Hairy Bikers’ Food Tour of Britain in 2009, The Hairy Bikers’ Cook Off in 2010 and The Hairy Bikers’ Asian Adventure in 2014. The projects merged their love of cooking and motorcycles.

The BBC paid tribute, writing: “Dave made cooking a truly joyful adventure and he shared that joy with millions. The public loved him and his unique partnership with Si. Together they made every viewer feel like a friend.”

A statement said: “We are devastated to hear of Dave Myers’ passing and send our heartfelt condolences to his family and friends.

“We are immensely proud to have published the Hairy Bikers for over 14 years and will truly miss Dave’s infectious energy and passion for food and travel.

“There was never a dull moment working with Dave, and all who were lucky enough to do so will attest to what a brilliantly inspiring and kind and hardworking man he was.

“This is a huge loss, and all our love goes out to Si, Lil and Dave’s wider family at this time.”

Hairy Bikers star Dave Myers was supported after sharing “candid” details about his cancer diagnosis in a recent Christmas special.

Myers, who never revealed what cancer he had been diagnosed with, reflected on his treatment during new show The Hairy Bikers: Coming Home for Christmas alongside his wife Liliana Orzac.

The Hairy Bikers met on the set of TV drama The Gambling Man in 1995 and formed a close personal and professional relationship.

“At lunch most of the crew were ordering salads and mineral water at the local pub, while I was having a curry and two pints of larger,” King told The Independent.

“When Dave came in he took one look at my lunch and went, ‘I’ll have what he’s having!’ Pretty quickly we discovered that we both loved eating, drinking and motorcycling.”

“He was very down to earth,” Tebbutt said on The One Show.

“To have him around, it kind of made the world brighter.”

A photo of Myers and King posted by Myers’s wife Liliana is believed to be one of the last photos of the pair.

Shared on Facebook on 6 February, Liliana captioned the post: “Our boys [heart emojis].

“Watching their first leg of their trip!!!”
