Ben Duckett was run out as England began their run chase of 557 against India in the worst possible fashion on a punishing penultimate day in the third Test in Rajkot.
Duckett was caught in a moment of miscommunication with fellow opener Zak Crawley and was stumped to give India the perfect start after the hosts declared on 430-4, setting England a daunting total.
Yashasvi Jaiswal smashed 214 not out, his second successive test double hundred, while Shubman Gill (91) and Sarfaraz Khan (68 not out) made half-centuries, with England seemingly running out of ideas underneath the baking sun.
The hosts declared as they push to go 2-1 ahead in the five-match series and their bid was boosted by Ravi Ashwin coming back into the fold. Ashwin, India’s premier spinner, pulled out of the Test on Friday night to tend to a family medical emergency but it was announced he will return on Sunday afternoon and be available immediately.
