She gained prominence after winning the game show The $64,000 Question (1955) by correctly answering questions on the subject of boxing. She returned for the spin-off show The $64,000 Challenge (1957) 2 years later and took home the top prize of $70,000 by winning in the same category again.

Joyce has influenced future generations of psychologists including the popular American psychologist, Phil McGraw.

She had made appearances on several talk shows such as The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson, The Dick Cavett Show, etc. as well as daytime television programs like Good Morning America, Today, Entertainment Tonight, and others.

Following her success on The $64,000 Question game show, Joyce was invited to be the color commentator during a boxing match between Sugar Ray Robinson and Carmen Basilio for CBS. This made her the first female boxing commentator in history.

Her expertise was sought on momentous global events such as Princess Diana‘s death in1997, the Challenger space shuttle’s explosion in 1986, the Columbine school shooting in 1999, and several others. Additionally, she was called on reputed news channels to discuss hot-button social issues like homose*uality, the transgender community, and gun control legislation.
