She began her modeling career at the young age of 15 years.

While growing up, Makenzie dreamt of becoming a professional ballerina and trained until the age of 15 before focusing her attention on writing.

While studying at New York University, once her writing assignment was criticized for being very one-dimensional, which prompted her to enroll in acting class to get a better understanding of character development. It was from this class that she developed an interest in acting and decided to pursue an acting career.

Makenzie started training with acting coach Susan Batson in 2009 after deciding to become an actress.

She turned director, writer, and co-producer for the short film The Vanishing Princess (2018). Additionally, she also acted in the film as The Princess.
