Malik Yoba is an American actor and occasional singer. He is best known for his starring role in the police drama New York Undercover (1994) and Cool Runnings (1993). He also appeared in the drama series Alphas (2011), Revolution (TV series), and Vernon Turner in Empire (TV series, 2015).
Career
In 2016, he starred in the role of FBI Deputy Director Jason Atwood in the political drama Designated Survivor (TV series). He appeared as a guest host of the popular weekly musical show Soul Train in May 1997. After that, he joined the Netflix crime drama Seven Seconds in 2018.
Malik Yoba began his role in the popular police drama series New York Undercover in 1994, opposite Michael DeLorenzo. He and DeLorenzo made television history, as the series was the first police drama on American television to feature two people of color in the portraying roles.
He earned three successive NAACP Image Awards for Outstanding Actor in a Drama Series (in 1996, 1997, and 1998) for his work in New York Undercover.
An accomplished singer and stage actor showed his talents in the movie His Woman His Wife, he had the lead role. He also appeared in films including Cool Runnings (1993) and Criminal (2004). He has made appearances on the TV series Arrested Development (2003).
Malik Yoba had a recurring role on the sitcom Girlfriends in 2000. In, the 2007 film Why Did I Get Married? and its sequel Why Did I Get Married Too? (2010). He voiced the character Pete in the video game The Walking Dead: Michonne in 2016.
Yoba joined social media to announce he would be a member of the National Trans Visibility March in Washington, D.C. More recently, he appeared as Frank in the 2019 crime action thriller film Awake.
