He was born on July 15, 1949, to Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum and Latifa bint Hamdan Al Nahyan in Al Shindagha, Dubai, Trucial States (now the UAE). The Maktoum family, who rule Dubai and are descended from the “House of Al-Falasi,” has three sons. His mother was an Abu Dhabi emir’s daughter.
