In 1990, she was diagnosed with the near-fatal liver disease called hepatitis C. She had contracted the virus in the 1980s while working as a nurse in the intensive care unit.

Naomi and her daughter (as The Judds) performed their farewell tour in 1991, which became the highest-grossing tour of the year. Furthermore, she also performed at the Super Bowl halftime-show in 1994.

She was born only 8 days before her good friend and fellow country singer Dolly Parton, who was born on January 19, 1946.

Naomi took her own life just 1 day prior to getting inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame with her daughter Wynonna for their outstanding contribution to country music. Nevertheless, her daughters Wynonna and Ashley accepted the award tearfully and dedicated it to their mother.
