He got his big break in films in 1975 after he was spotted by a Universal Studios talent scout while performing a play at the Stratford Shakespeare Festival in Canada.

Macht had auditioned for the role of Captain Jean-Luc Picard on Star Trek: The Next Generation and was one of the top contenders for the role before Patrick Stewart was finalized.

In October 2016, he released his book titled Moral Change: a Tragedy or a Return?: How Aristotle’s Tragic Reversal Illuminates Maimonides’ Teshuva.

For his portrayal of attorney Trevor Lansing in the long-running soap opera General Hospital, Stephen received a Soap Opera Digest award nomination for ‘Best Villain’ in 2007.

As of 2023, he has worked with actress Megan Ward a total of 4 times: the television series General Hospital and Boomtown (2003) as well as the films Amityville: It’s About Time (1992) and Trancers III (1992).
