Today’s Wimbledon scores and results as Novak Djokovic and Iga Swiatek in action

Paula Badosa forced to correct interviewer who claims she ‘won’ Wimbledon match

Novak Djokovic and Iga Swiatek return to top billing on Centre Court as the fourth round of the Championships get underway on the tournament’s middle Sunday.

Djokovic will continue his bid for a fifth consecutive Wimbledon title and the big-serving Polish player Hubert Hurkacz is set to be his toughest challenge yet at the All England Club. The Serbian, who raced past Stan Wawrinka on Saturday night, has yet to drop a set this week and will look to extend his winning run at Wimbledon to 32 matches against the 17th seed.

Swiatek takes on the Olympic champion Belinda Bencic, while Ukrainian wildcard Elina Svitolina faces former world No 1 Victoria Azarenka as she looks to continue her comeback run.

Meanwhile, British hopes are over in the singles after Katie Boulter was crushed by defending champion Elena Rybakina late on Saturday night. Boulter was the last British player standing after Andy Murray, Cameron Norrie and Liam Broady were knocked out on Friday but Rybakina produced a dominant performance to win 6-1 6-1 in just 56 minutes.

Out on the courts

There is some early action taking place on the outer courts. The pick of the bunch is on court twelve, where Jamie Murray and his partner, Michael Venus, are taking on Alexander Erler and Lucas Miedler in the men’s doubles round of 32. It’s not the ideal start for Murray and Venus, though, as the pair lose the first-set tie-break

Elsewhere, Stefanos Tsitsipas, who must feel like he has been playing every minute of this year’s Wimbledon so far, finally tastes defeat alongside his brother, Petros, as the Greek duo fall to a 7-6 4-6 2-6 defeat against Arthur Fils and Luca van Assche.

I would have signed with my blood for this Wimbledon run – Matteo Berrettini

The 2021 finalist has been struggling with a recurring abdominal problem that forced him to miss the defence of his Queen’s Club title but is through to the fourth round after convincing victories over Alex De Minaur and Alexander Zverev.

Berrettini, who was forced out of Wimbledon last year by Covid, said on court after his third-round victory that he had spent many days crying in his bed as he fought to get healthy again.

“If they told me a few weeks ago you’re going to play five days in a row in Wimbledon, I would have signed with my blood,” the Italian said later.

“I really spent days in bed thinking about the tournaments that I missed, the injuries that I had, sadness that I was feeling. I was like, ‘I have to come back and feel alive when I play’.

“That’s the energy I have right now. It doesn’t matter how tired I am. In the morning, go there, enjoy. I find that extra energy that maybe a few years ago I took for granted.”

Weather report

There was some danger of some rain in the early part of the day. That has stayed away so far and touch wood, that remains the case.

Moving into the afternoon, we aren’t expecting any bad weather with, hopefully, some sunshine on offer as well.

Unloved and overshadowed – the curious case of Cameron Norrie, the forgotten British No 1

Katie Boulter wasn’t the only British challenge to see their Wimbledon journey come to an end over the last two days. Britain’s men’s No.1, Cam Norrie, suffered a shock defeat to America’s Christopher Eubanks.

Having reached the semi-finals last year, Norrie had a tournament to forget this summer in SW19. For the man who has constantly lived in the shadows of British tennis, the contrast was stark once again. At the same time Andy Murray was recapturing the hearts of the nation with a gutsy, passion-infused five-set defeat to Stefanos Tsitsipas on Centre Court, Norrie’s low-key loss took place in front of a two-thirds full, slightly muted Court 1.

Forget moving the needle, Cameron Norrie vs Christopher Eubanks didn’t even have a needle, while Murray vs Tsitsipas was breaking the dial.

Luke Baker takes a look at the tale of Cam Norrie:
