Trump posts corrected fraud bond after New York court rejected documents: Live

Donald Trump says 5 November will be ‘Christian Visibility Day’

Donald Trump has now filed new paperwork related to the $175m bond he posted on Monday to appeal the $464m New York fraud judgement against him after it was rejected and “returned for correction”, according to the New York County Supreme Court.

The documentation failed to include a current financial statement for Knight Specialty Insurance (which is underwriting the bond) or list an attorney-in-fact. These have now been added.

On Tuesday, Mr Trump suffered a further legal setback when his efforts to have his upcoming Manhattan hush money trial delayed on presidential immunity grounds were rejected.

Judge Juan Merchan ruled that “the defendant had myriad opportunities to raise the claim of presidential immunity” long before he ever did and that, because the justice was denying the motion on that basis, he need not address whether immunity “precludes the introduction of evidence of purported official presidential acts in a criminal proceeding”.

Meanwhile, Special Counsel Jack Smith has slammed Judge Aileen Cannon, overseeing the classified documents case in Florida, to reject the ex-president’s contention that he had any claim to personal ownership over the boxes of top secret files reclaimed by the FBI from Mar-a-Lago in August 2022.

NY civil fraud trial: Trump posts corrected bond documents

Donald Trump has now posted a corrected bond in for his New York civil fraud trial ruling in the case brought against him by New York Attorney General Letitia James and presided over by Arthur Engoron.

Aligning with what MSNBC contributor Lisa Rubin noted earlier on X, the additional information added to it to meet the court’s requirements concerns Knight Speciality Insurance Co, which is underwriting the bond, and not documentation relating to the Trump Organization.

Rubin now notes: “Specifically, it shows Amit Shah, the president of his insurance company, had Don Hankey’s permission to sign the deal, and also reflects that both Knight Specialty Insurance & its parent company, Knight Insurance Co, have sufficient assets to cover the bond.”

Watch: Rep Ogles says he wants to ‘honour’ Trump by renaming airport

Republican Rep Andy Ogles appeared on Newsmax this morning to talk about joining the bill to rename Washington Dulles International Airport after Donald Trump.

“You always swing for the fences. You never stop fighting. But look, Donald Trump was a transformative president … why not put in their face and say, you know what? We’re gonna honour the president.”

The bill is highly unlikely to make its way through Congress and possibly won’t even make it through a House vote.

Here’s our reporting on the proposal:

As Trump threatens to upend Nato if re-elected, Biden celebrates 75 years of alliance

Statement from President Joe Biden on NATO’s 75th Anniversary

Today, we celebrate a historic milestone: the 75th anniversary of NATO.

This is the greatest military alliance in the history of the world. But it didn’t happen by accident, nor was it inevitable. Generation after generation, the United States and our fellow Allies have chosen to come together to stand up for freedom and push back against aggression—knowing we are stronger, and the world is safer, when we do.

We saw this during the Cold War, as we stood united against the forces of Soviet totalitarianism. We saw it again when America was attacked on September 11, 2001 and our Allies invoked NATO Article 5—an attack against one, is an attack against all—for the first and only time in history. And we’ve seen it over the last two years, as Allies have stepped up to support the brave people of Ukraine in the face of Russia’s vicious invasion—the largest war in Europe since World War II.

Today, NATO is larger, stronger, and more determined than ever before. We’ve added Finland and Sweden to the Alliance—two democracies, with two highly capable militaries. Over the past three years, our NATO Allies have increased their own annual defense spending by almost $80 billion. As our adversaries have plotted to break our remarkable unity, our democracies have stood unwavering. And this July, the United States will host a Washington NATO Summit—bringing together our Allies to modernize our defense and deterrence.

Now, like generations before us, we must choose to protect this progress and build on it. We must remember that the sacred commitment we make to our Allies—to defend every inch of NATO territory—makes us safer too, and gives the United States a bulwark of security unrivaled by any other nation in the world. And like our predecessors, we must ask ourselves what can we do—what must we do—to create a more peaceful future.

75 years ago today—after signing the treaty that brought NATO into existence—President Harry Truman said: “If there is anything certain today, if there is anything inevitable in the future, it is the will of the people of the world for freedom and for peace.” I believe that will is stronger today than ever before—and in the years ahead, I know we’ll prove it.

Karl Rove condemns Trump wanting to pardon Jan 6 felons

George W Bush administration veteran Karl Rove gave a blunt assessment of Donald Trump’s promise to pardon January 6 Capitol rioters for their crimes during a panel discussion hosted by MSNBC’s Ari Melber.

“[Donald Trump] wants to pardon these people who attacked our Capitol. I worked in that building, as a young man, to me the Congress of the United States is one of the great examples of the strength of our democracy and a jewel of the Constitution,” he said. “What those people did, when they violently attacked the Capitol, in order to stop a constitutionally mandated meeting of Congress to accept the results of the Electoral College is a stain on our history, and every one of the sons of b****** who did that, we ought to find them, try ‘em, and send ‘em to jail.”

Mr Rove added: “One of the critical mistakes made in this campaign is that Donald Trump has now said I’m going to pardon those people because they’re hostages. No, they’re not. They’re thugs.”

About Trump’s bond filing being returned for correction…

MSNBC legal correspondent Lisa Rubin has some thoughts on Donald Trump’s bond filing being returned for corrections and missing information as we reported earlier.

Rubin says on X that “all is not what it seems”. She writes:

The financial statement that is missing does not seem to be Trump’s. Rather, the court appears to be demanding these documents from Knight Specialty Insurance Co. to ensure that company is sufficiently capitalized and authorized to post the bond.

Meanwhile, we still don’t know what fee Trump paid for the bond or exactly what collateral he pledged, especially as Don [Hankey] gave slightly different accounts to various media outlets.

Mr Hankey is the billionaire owner of Knight Specialty Insurance, which is underwriting Mr Trump’s bond.

But you know who likely DOES have all of those details? Retired federal judge Barbara Jones, the court-appointed monitor in the case. Under a 3/21/24 order, the Trump Org must give her advanced notice of their efforts to secure surety bonds.

The information she is entitled to includes “any financial disclosures requested or required, any information provided in response to such requests, any representations made by the Trump Org. in connection with acquiring such bonds… any personal guarantees made by any of the defendants, & any obligations of the Trump Organization required by the surety.

And I can think of a courtroom full of journalists, as well as a bunch of lawyers in the New York Attorney General’s office, who would love to know what Barbara Jones presumably knows right now.

Jill Biden snaps back at fears Trump could beat her husband in election: ‘He’s not losing!’

Here’s the first lady on CBS yesterday morning sticking up for her husband when questioned about the prospect of him losing key battleground states.

Jill Biden snaps back at fears Trump could beat her husband in election

Jill Biden snapped at a journalist as she was questioned about the state of her husband’s re-election campaign. The First Lady appeared on CBS Mornings on Wednesday (3 April) and was questioned about the US presidential election, in particular a recent Wall Street Journal survey showing the Democratic incumbent trails Trump in six out of seven key 2024 swing states. When CBS host Tony Dokoupil brought up the polling results, Mrs Biden interrupted him, saying: “No, he’s not losing. “He’s not losing in all the battleground states. He’s coming up,” she insisted before Dokoupil could finish his question.

Ahead of market opening Trump amps up Truth Social after shaky week

Donald Trump began his day amping up Truth Social on… Truth Social.

He’s evidently still obsessed with crowd size…

All of the competitors to TRUTH SOCIAL, especially those in the Radical Left Democrats Party who are failing at every level, like to use their vaunted “disinformation machine” to try and convince people, and it is not easy to do, that TRUTH is not such a big deal and doesn’t “get the word out” as well as various others, which they know to be false. I THINK TRUTH IS AMAZING! First of all, it is very solid, having over $200,000,000 in CASH and ZERO DEBT. More importantly, it is the primary way I get the word out and, for better or worse, people want to hear what I have to say, perhaps, according to experts, more than anyone else in the World. My TV ratings are by far the highest, and my Rallies are not equaled, even close, anywhere or by anyone. Look, I had hundreds of millions of followers on various platforms, and could have them back again, but was cancelled for largely political reasons. Those platforms all want me back…They need me back! On Truth I have 7,000,000 followers……

[He has 87.3m followers on X… which he doesn’t use?]

Page 2: Very good for a startup, and growing fast. But when I put out a statement or message, it is SPREAD all over the place, fast and furious. EVERYBODY SEEMS TO GET WHATEVER I HAVE TO SAY, AND QUICKLY. At press conferences I will sometimes ask, “who is on TRUTH.” I have never had one reporter tell me they are not. They are all on TRUTH because the have to be. So don’t believe the FAKE NEWS. Until I came along and exposed them, they were respected and believed. Now they are the exact opposite. With the Russia, Russia, Russia HOAX. and all of the others, people get it. Look, using TRUTH, I became the Republican Nominee for President of the United States, and in record time! When I ENDORSE a politician on TRUTH, they almost ALWAYS WIN. If it didn’t work, or properly get the word out, I wouldn’t use it – But it does work, and work really well – And the fun is just getting started!!!

Anyway… back to the regularly scheduled programming of attacking Jack Smith:

Deranged “Special” Counsel Jack Smith, who has a long record of failure as a prosecutor, including a unanimous decision against him in the U.S. Supreme Court, should be sanctioned or censured for the way he is attacking a highly respected Judge, Aileen Cannon, who is presiding over his FAKE Documents Hoax case in Florida. He is a lowlife who is nasty, rude, and condescending, and obviously trying to “play the ref.” He shouldn’t even be allowed to participate in this sham case, where I, unlike Crooked Joe Biden, Hillary Clinton, and all the rest, come under the Presidential Records Act. I DID NOTHING WRONG, BUT BIDEN DID, AND THEY LET HIM OFF SCOT-FREE. HOW DID THAT HAPPEN, JACK? A TWO TIERED SYSTEM OF JUSTICE. ELECTION INTERFERENCE!

Here’s what got him riled up about Jack Smith:
