Up to eight children – all around the age of three – have stabbed in a knife attack within a park in a town in the French alps.
Initial reports suggested eight children and one adult had injured in the attack, although that was revised to six children by local media. Two are said to be in critical condition.
French Interior minister Gerald Darmanin said on Twitter that the the attacker had been arrested.
Regional deputy Antoine Armand described the attack as “abominable” and said authorities were investigating.
The French prime minister, Élisabeth Borne, is on her way to the scene.
