Uzma Kardar was born on Sunday, 8 April 1956 (age 66 years; as of 2022) in Lahore, Pakistan. She studied at the Convent of Jesus and Mary, Murree school in Murree, Punjab, Pakistan.  In 1976, she pursued a Bachelor of Arts degree at the Kinnaird College for Women in Lahore.

Academic Coordinator

Uzma Kardar worked as an Academic Coordinator at the ‘Lahore Grammar School Gulberg’ in Lahore from 1995 to 2018.

Politician

Uzma Kardar started her political journey in 2018 by joining Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party. On 15 August 2018, Uzma was elected as the Member of the Provincial Asssembly of Punjab, Pakistan from one of the seats reserved for women in the province. In 2018, she was appointed as the chairperson of the Standing Committee on Gender Mainstreaming (Women Development).

Controversy

Expelled From Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)

Reportedly, Uzma Kardar was expelled from Imran Khan ruled – Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party in 2020 days after a controversial audio clip went viral in which she allegedly spoke about the role of military establishment in the government and commented on Prime Minister Imran Khan and his third wife, Bushra Bibi Khan. Uzma was purpotedly heard speaking about importance of military establishment in running the government in Pakistan and allegedly claiming that Bushra Bibi possesses ‘jinn’ and has a great influence in deciding the matters of the Pakistan Cabinet, including the postings of senior officials. Uzma Kardar, in the controversial audio, allegedly said,
The establishment, the government and Prime Minister Imran Khan are going hand-in-hand. No government in Pakistan can be run without the support of the military establishment.”
The PTI released an official statement and mentioned ‘violation of discipline’ as the primary reason for Uzma’s expulsion.

In contrast, Uzma Kardar, in an interview, claimed that a personal conversation was presented in a distorted and negative way with a fake voice over in the leaked audio. She added that her loyalty for Imran Khan, his wife, and the party is unquestionable. While talking about it in an interview, Uzma said,
My loyalty with my party and Prime Minister Imran Khan is unquestionable. The chief minister is the leader of my team and I hold him in high regard. He has been very appreciative of my work.”

  • According to sources, Uzma started writing many articles for Pakistani newspapers in 2008.
  • She is the official media spokesperson of Punjab Government in Pakistan.
  • Reportedly, Uzma attended National Security Workshop Course 20 at National Defence University, Islamabad and secured highest posiiton. She was selected to make a presentation on behalf of the batch in fornt of the then President of Pakistan.
  • As per some sources, Uzma has served as the member of many institutions including Punjab Curriculum & Textbook Board Lahore, Kashmir Committee Punjab, and Lahore College for Women University.
