West Ham are focusing their attacks down the left. Antonio approaches the byline and beats Patterson on the outside before driving a cross into the heart of the box. However, Onana is there and he clears it away.

Garner switches the play over to the left, with McNeil controlling it well. He is up against Coufal and looks to go past him before flashing a low cross into the box that is collected by Areola.

West Ham have started the game well and are keeping possession. Ward-Prowse rolls the ball across to Cresswell, who slides a throughball down the wing. Antonio races down the channel to get there but pokes it behind for a goal-kick.

Everton will want to start the game quickly to boost the morale around the club after a difficult week. They are also facing a deduction of 12 points due to alleged breaches of financial rules.

Everton have lost more Premier League away games against London sides than any other side (87). They did, however, win their last visit to the capital (3-1 v Brentford), last winning back-to-back such matches in May 2021 (the second of which was against West Ham).

Everton only make one alteration to the team that was beaten by Liverpool. Ashley Young was sent off in the Merseyside derby, meaning Patterson comes in at right-back.

West Ham make two changes to the side that lost to Villa in their last Premier League match. Cresswell returns from injury to make his first start of the season and replaces Emerson Palmieri at left-back, with the former Chelsea defender out through suspension. Kudus also comes in for Soucek.

Everton’s one change comes at right-back with Ashley Young suspended after his red card in the defeat to Liverpool. A late change on the bench means Andy Lonergan is in the matchday squad as a third goalkeeper.

Mohammed Kudus starts in the Hammers attack, with James Ward-Prowse partnered by Edson Alvarez in midfield – Tomas Soucek is left on the bench.
