Then, just moments later, it looked as if Virgil van Dijk had conceded a penalty with Odsonne Edouard felled while through on goal – but a long VAR check resulted in an earlier foul from Will Hughes wiping Van Dijk’s infringement from the record.

Liverpool can’t make much of the corner, with Joachim Andersen heading clear. Can the visitors mount a telling assault before half time?
