Hodgson an outstanding person – Klopp
Crystal Palace host Liverpool in today’s early Premier League kick-off with manager Roy Hodgson under growing pressure to turn around the Eagles floundering form.
Palace were booed off the pitch during their 2-0 midweek defeat to Bournemouth at Selhurst Park in what was a fourth successive league game without a win. Supporters were further incensed after Hodgson suggested they had been “spoilt” by the club’s long spell in the top-flight.
Liverpool, meanwhile, overcame a stubborn Sheffield United to record a 2-0 victory of their own thanks to goals from Virgil van Dijk and Dominik Szoboszlai. Jurgen Klopp’s side are two points behind Arsenal in the table and will jump ahead of the Gunners into top spot should they emerge victorious in London.

Crystal Palace 0-0 Liverpool, 49 minutes
Will Hughes’s left-footed free kick bends on to Jefferson Lerma’s head, but the Colombian has too much to do and gets his technique wrong trying to force it goalwards, in the end directing it nearing the corner flag than Alisson’s right-hand post.

Alexander-Arnold has his fingeprints all over a move that sees Luis Diaz cutting inside in trademark fashion, a shot of sorts that is almost diverted goalwards by Darwin Nunez’s dome – the striker may have been offside, anyway, and can’t get much of a connection on Diaz’s fast-moving strike.

Crystal Palace 0-0 Liverpool, 47 minutes
Alexander-Arnold had seen plenty of the ball in the first half, but felt a little bit on the periphery with Jurgen Klopp asking the right back to provide width. Can he influence matters more from a deep-lying playmakeing role?

Half-time changes…
A couple of changes at the interval, one to each team. Crystal Palace’s change is, we assume, injury enforced, with Jean-Philippe Mateta replacing Odsonne Edouard, who took a knock in the first half.
Liverpool’s is all together more intriguing: Joe Gomez is on for Wataru Endo, with Trent Alexander-Arnold in midfield as the second half begins.

HT: Crystal Palace 0-0 Liverpool
A touch lethargic from Liverpool, but a very impressive first half from Crystal Palace, with the two big moments falling their way. Jefferson Lerma should, really, have put them in front, but a fit-again Alisson made a remarkable save with a bit of help from his woodwork. Then, just moments later, it looked as if Virgil van Dijk had conceded a penalty with Odsonne Edouard felled while through on goal – but a long VAR check resulted in an earlier foul from Will Hughes wiping Van Dijk’s infringement from the record.

Liverpool can’t make much of the corner, with Joachim Andersen heading clear. Can the visitors mount a telling assault before half time?

Two vital blocks! Better from Liverpool, Trenet Alexander-Arnold picking out Mohamed Salah. Salah can’t bit a couple of bodies and Dominik Szoboszlai’s follow-up bounces away off of Will Hughes’s blond bonce.

Crystal Palace 0-0 Liverpool, 45 minutes
Liverpool’s passing in the final third hasn’t been accurate enough so far. Tsimikas finds Luis Diaz, who passes nicely to Ryan Gravenberch, and the Dutchman finds Darwin Nunez with his back to goal. Nunez could return it to either of his predecessors on the move, but his eventual pass is between the pair of them, ending the attack.
Five additional minutes to be played.
