In 2022, Sanna won the Pulitzer Prize for Feature Photography, one of the American Pulitzer Prizes annually awarded for journalism, for her coverage of the situation of Covid-19. She shared the award with her fellow Reuters photojournalists Adnan Abidi, Amit Dave, and Danish Siddiqui (deceased).

  • Reportedly, in October 2022, Sanna Irshad Mattoo was stopped by immigration officials at Delhi airport despite holding a valid US visa and ticket while travelling to New York for receiving the Pulitzer Prize. According to her, this was the second time when she was stopped from travelling internationally. Before this, Sanna was stopped at Delhi airport by immigration officials from travelling to Paris for a book launch and photography exhibition.
